Chilwell Manor Golf Club became a Golf Roots Centre in August 2018 and is also a Junior Golf Development Hub as from May 2022. This followed our close working relationship with local schools (and the wider community) being recognised by the Golf Foundation. Accreditation was also supported by England Golf and Nottinghamshire Junior Golf.
In order to improve our practice facilities for the wider community, we successfully applied for Notts. County Council Local Improvement Funding which was awarded in late 2018. The practice ground is now complete and has, amongst other facilities, two undercover canopies for practising in inclement weather - particularly useful in not having to cancel pre-arranged events with young people. We have also been able to create raised target areas and a bespoke bunker for a variety of bunker shots.
During the construction, we have been grateful for the support of local companies and the volunteer labour provided by club members. Local companies helped us reclaim land and provided materials and equipment which otherwise would have made the project impossible to achieve.
We actively work with schools to promote the sport of golf. Events are planned for the practice ground in school time, and young people (including our own Junior members) make use of the facilities in the evenings and weekends. We have a thriving junior section at the club in which young golfers, parents and club staff collaborate to provide the best possible experience for them.
