Notts County Mixed Interclub Foursomes
The above was played on Monday 24th May 2010.
Our team of George Constance & Glenys Priestley, Adam Dorricott & Dianne Whittaker played against Bulwell Forest at Nottingham City.
Whilst a sterling effort was made by our team and congratulations must go to them for how they conducted themselves, however, Bulwell Forest has won through to the next round. Many thanks to our team for supporting their club and to those who supported them on this occasion.
Notts County Ladies Interclub Foursomes
Glenys Priestley and Jude Gannon, Wendy Adcock (our Lady President) and Anne Gray played their Match at Mapperley versus Beeston Fields on Monday 17th May 2010.
Congratulations to our Chilwell team who having won, will now go forward to the next round.
Come along and support your team.
Notts Ladies County Championship
The above was held on 4th to 6th May at Newark Golf Club. Wendy Adcock our Lady President with Glenys Priestley and Anne Gray represented our Club with Glenys and Anne qualifying for the last 16 knockout stages.
Glenys proceeded then on to the quarter finals of this competition and we congratulate her achievement. Well done Ladies.
Thanks to Martyn Swinscoe
Martyn Swinscoe, a long-standing member of Chilwell Manor Golf Club, assisted the club in the development of our Centenary booklet. As part of that development a new improved version of the club logo was created by Martyn and used inadvertently in subsequent club literature, infringing the copyright held by Martyn.
Martyn could have sought legal recompense for this infringement but, with the club’s best interest at heart, has declined to do so. Indeed he has gone further: he has generously offered to donate all rights to the new logo to the club to ensure that such a mistake cannot occur again. For that the club committee extends its sincere thanks.
7th Hole. Out of Bounds
The Out of Bounds on the 7th Hole has been moved in approximately 10 metres from the boundary fence.
This is due to the large number of golf balls damaging properties on Derwent Close.
I know members and visitors do not intentionally hit balls out of bounds, but please aware of the distress it can cause to people living close by.
Members are reminded that any ball(s) hit out of the course must be reported to the Professional.

Hon Secretary
Last Years Captains Charity
A thank you letter has been received from the Alzheimer's Society, which was the Charity supported by last years Captains; Phil Vincent and Dianne Whittaker. They had received a cheque for £5000 which was much appreciated.
Greens Notice. Coloured Flags
The chequered flag which denoted the hole position was at the back of the green, was causing some confusion. It could be confused with the yellow flag in some circumstances.
It has now been replaced with a blue flag to denote the hole is at the back of the green.
The colours are now:
Red flag. Hole at front of green
Yellow flag. Hole at centre of green
Blue flag. Hole at back of green
Past Captains' Farewell
The outgoing Club Captain, Phil Vincent, and outgoing Lady Captain, Dianne Whittaker would like to thank the club members for their help and support throughout the year. They send their best wishes to Dave and Vivien for the coming year.
Below is a transcript of the Captain's farewell speech at the AGM.
Chilwell Manor Golf Club
Captain’s Farewell Speech
President of the NUGC, , Lady Captain, Past Captains & fellow members of Chilwell Manor.
So, a year has passed …the mantle passes to David ..Phew!! What a quick 12 months this has been and I assure you that this speech will be equally as quick!!
I said in my acceptance speech that I felt somewhat humbled to stand before you as Captain for 2009; I looked at past captains with some trepidation and concluded that they were a hard act to follow; and I was right…they were all different people with different styles, but one thing they all had in common was a fierce loyalty and commitment to do their best for Chilwell Manor.
The pledge from me was in turn to do the same and do my best and to try take the club forward but my most simple objective was nothing grand or pompous but to try to put smiles back on faces & for all members to enjoy Chilwell both on & off the course.
Have I succeeded ? I would like to think so , I don’t think anyone has quite recovered from Jon Pearson & I setting back the reputation of Morris Dancing probably for ever!! Similarly, the sight of Dave Bailey prancing about the floor on Captains last dance trying to emulate the experts says all you need to know about Dave & sets his year off as I know he means to carry on.
I would like to think that understanding and communication between committee & members has improved.
It is said I’m sure by all captains and I am no different, there are many people who work behind the scenes without which the role of captaincy could not function.
I would like to thank everyone both on the social & main committees and all those members who have supported me, to Alan & Vicky Roberts for guiding me through the frenetic match programme made more difficult with Chilwell being the county course & thank you to all members for their forbearance in accommodating the county matches, Thank you
To Chris Lawrence & Jean for their help thank you.
Dianne Whittaker my Lady Captain who has always smiled in adversity, Dianne, I would like to think that we made a good team and supporting Alzheimer’s as our combined charity has brought a closeness which I will always cherish, Thank you.
There are some to whom a special thanks is needed.
Dave Bailey who has been both my left & right arms!! Tell you what Dave being Capo will be a doddle compared with being my vice!! Thank you David
Joy & John Pearson who as closest friends to Gail & I have worked so hard for me with Joy acting as my unpaid secretary. We have all been concerned and distressed with Joy’s illness; the good wishes and concern from all sections of the club are a testament to the high regard & esteem in which she is held throughout the club. Thank you Joy & Jon
To Colin Talkes..As you may know Colin has for many years undertaken a video of key moments during Captains year . He does this difficult task with humour & commitment and this record is something I will look back on in my dotage with great pleasure.Thank you Colin.
Finally to Gail..She is at my side always with consistent loyalty & support , I thank you sweetheart for that support, without which the job would have been virtually impossible. Thank you
Ladies & gentlemen , the challenges for Chilwell will not go away , getting some of our car park members back into the club to use the clubhouse by choice and not by duty remains a challenge and maintaining club numbers against fierce competition from other local clubs all chasing declining golf club membership will be critical to our longer term welfare, so the offer we give both on and off the course has to remain of the highest quality.
I hand over to Dave Bailey & to Viv Smart knowing that the club will be in good hands.
Thanks & God bless to all…….
New Captain's Drive In Sunday 14th March 2010
The activities started with the members who were present, mulling around the 1st tee, and whilst waiting for the Captain - David Bailey, to drive off, were having a toast on the Captain, and debating how far he would drive the ball(s). Claire, David's daughter ably assisted by Gail Vincent, gave out the toasts and snacks, which were most welcome. Thank you Mr Captain.
Hovering in the background was our intrepid camera man - Colin Talkes, we will look forward to seeing the video!!
Our Captain ready to tee off using a hickory shafted driver, of which he had never had a practice with, then hit all three golf balls down the middle to much applause. The Captain then started the 10 hole Texas Scramble Competition with the Lady Captain, Viv Smart, the Vice Captain - Jeff Elliott, and the Lady Vice Captain - Maggie Elliott. What a super day - with sunshine too.
George Edwards Memorial Bridge
George Edwards Junior applied to the Committee several months ago to ask if he could build a bridge, at no cost to the club, in honour of his late father, George Edwards who was a member of this club for nearly 40 years. George, who had an unofficial competition named after him, sadly passed away in February 2006.
It was agreed with George Junior that a bridge in front of the men's 4th tee would be appropriate, as it would be seen clearly by people playing the third hole.
Work started w/c 23 November 2009 and was complete by early 2010.
Our thanks to George for his generous gesture.
Help for Heroes Fundraiser
The above was held on Sunday 25th October 2009, and with the support of all the members, competitors, and numerous sponsors made this a very succesful event.
The amount raised was £1724.
May I once again thank everyone for their support and generosity for this worthy cause.
Alan Roberts.
