Captain's Welcome Message

Phil Vincent
Phil Vincent

As Captain of Chilwell Manor Golf Club for 2009, a warm welcome to our website. We have recently revamped all aspects of our website and in consequence are very proud of the format, and trust that both members & visitors find it a useful , informative, pleasant and hopefully user-friendly experience

As one of the premier courses in Nottinghamshire, Chilwell Manor is an established golf club over 100 years old, with a great tradition for providing a warm welcome to all visitors and societies. Over the last few years the course has been fashioned and transformed with all greens rebuilt to the highest specification, and a measure of the stature in which we are held, is that Chilwell  Manor is the Nottinghamshire County Course for 2009, something to which we are justifiably very proud .

A testament to our club is our thriving Junior section, which is taking Junior golf by storm within the county, having won the Junior Championship in 2006 and 2007, and runners up in 2008, we wish them every success for 2009. They are our future so all members have an obligation to encourage our future, so that future generations enjoy golf at Chilwell Manor.

I would also mention that myself, and our Lady Captain Dianne Whittaker have both chosen the Alzheimer's Society as our charity for 2009. It is our intention to target outreach workers and the befriending service that assists Alzheimer sufferers on a practical level.

Additionally, along with most golf clubs, we are on the look-out for new members and have a very attractive fee package, which competes favourably with any club in the county. So to any prospective new members, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Why not contact our secretary Chris Lawrence on 01159 9258958, with a view to coming to our club to see for yourself the combination of value for money, quality, and friendliness which is on offer.

Finally a brief word on the thorny issue of "slow play". This is not peculiar to our golf club,  as all golfers know that this is a continuing problem that besets all golf clubs. For this year, we are refocusing efforts to speed up play particularly on medals . Our professional  Paul Wilson will be leading this initiative. In the meantime I will re-emphasise one thing to all members that would help and that is the waiving through of the following group when a ball is ' lost' .This key rule of golf is being increasingly ignored & in consequence exacerbates slow play ; paradoxically the waiving through of following golfers gives five minutes in which to find the ball ; so all fellow club members please take note.

It is an  honour & privilege  to be Captain of Chilwell Manor and to all  fellow members, ladies, seniors, juniors & visitors alike I extend best wishes for a successful golfing year.
